LANZA is a throwing practice app for Ultimate Frisbee players. This page explains what the app stores, where, and why. The short version: your practice history lives on your phone, a LANZA account (Google or Strava, no password) keeps your history and team spot when you change phones, Strava is used only to post your sessions, and we never sell your data.
What stays on your phone
Your sessions (makes, throws, distance, target drawing, throw type, conditions, LANZA Score, session name), your settings (language, weekly goal, voice options) and your Strava sign-in are saved in your browser's storage on your device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
LANZA account
Practicing needs no account. When you join or create a team, LANZA asks you to sign in with Google or Strava so you keep one spot on the team and your history on any phone or browser. From Google we receive only your name, profile photo and a Google account number (scopes openid and profile, no email). The account stores that name, photo and which sign-in methods you linked. You can sign out at any time from the You screen.
Strava
Connecting Strava is optional. When you connect, Strava gives LANZA permission to read your basic profile (name and photo) and to upload activities. LANZA uses it only to:
- post your practice sessions to your Strava account and update them when you rename a session or change its conditions;
- show your name and photo inside the app;
- sign you in to your LANZA account and confirm it is really you when you share a session with your team or use the backup.
LANZA does not read your other Strava activities, routes, followers or any other athlete's data. You can disconnect at any time from the You screen in the app, which also revokes LANZA's access on Strava. You can also revoke it in Strava under Settings › My Apps.
Backup
If you sign in, a copy of your LANZA sessions and settings is stored on our server, linked to your LANZA account, so you can get your history back on a new phone. Only someone signed in to your account can read it. The backup holds your LANZA practice data, not activities read from Strava. You can delete it at any time with "Delete my backup" on the You screen, and you can download everything with "Download my data".
Team board
If you join a team, each finished session (its numbers, your display name and, if connected, that you are verified with Strava) is shared with the people who have that team code. Anyone with the code can see the board, so share it only with your team. Leaving the team stops sharing new sessions.
Microphone
Hands-free mode uses your browser's speech recognition to hear "make" or "miss". Audio is handled by your browser and its speech service; LANZA never records or stores audio.
Ads
LANZA may show an optional rewarded ad to unlock extra sessions. When ads are on, they are served by Google Ad Manager, which may use cookies or device identifiers as described in Google's ad policies. Ads are off unless the app owner turns them on.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't use your Strava data for advertising or share it with anyone except your team, as described above.
- We don't use Strava data in AI or machine learning of any kind.
- We don't track your location.
Hosting
The app and its server functions are hosted on Netlify. Team boards, accounts and backups are stored in Netlify Blobs.
Deleting your data
Delete your backup from the You screen, leave your team, sign out, disconnect Strava and clear the app from your browser. To delete your LANZA account itself, contact us. To remove sessions already shared on a team board, contact us.
